After taking a brutal beating at the RTJ Grand National Lake Course last week (shooting a humbling +28), I needed a redemption round to get my confidence back. Today, I headed back to Lakewinds Golf Course in Jacksons Gap, AL.
The result? A fantastic 78 (+8 total: Front 41, Back 37)!
Not only did my swing feel much more controlled, but leveraging my Smart Caddie app made a world of difference in my course management and strategic decision-making off the tee.
π± 1. The Game Changer: Why I Love Playing with Smart Caddie
When playing on courses where course management is key, relying solely on eye measurement can lead to costly mistakes. Today, using Smart Caddie felt like having a professional caddie right on my wrist.
Precise Distances: Getting exact yardages to the front, center, and back of the green helped me pick the right club with confidence.
Full Hole Map & Layout: Being able to see the entire hole layout allowed me to plan my shots strategically—avoiding hidden hazards, placing layups in prime fairway spots, and taking conservative lines when needed.
Score & Stat Tracking: It seamlessly tracked my putts and scores in real time, letting me focus 100% on execution rather than keeping mental math.
π 2. Scorecard Breakdown: Front 9 (41 / +6)
The Front 9 started off red-hot with three consecutive Pars, but a few mid-round hiccups kept me from breaking into the 30s.
Holes 1–3 (Par, Par, Par): Started incredibly solid. Driving was clean, and greens in regulation (GIR) made for stress-free two-putt Pars.
Holes 4–7 (Bogey, Par, Bogey, Bogey): Scrambled well on Hole 5 for Par, but minor mishits on the approach shots cost me single bogeys on 4, 6, and 7.
Hole 8 (Double Bogey 7 on Par 5): The biggest mistake on the front nine. A missed tee shot forced a tough recovery, leading to my only double bogey on the front.
Hole 9 (Bogey): Closed out with a 4 on the Par 3 to finish at 41 (+6) with 17 total putts.
π― 3. Scorecard Breakdown: Back 9 (37 / +2)
The Back 9 was where everything came together. The Smart Caddie layout previews really helped me stay aggressive where possible and smart where necessary.
Holes 10–11 (Bogey, Birdie!): Started with a bogey on 10, but bounced back immediately on Hole 11 (Par 3) with a beautiful tee shot and a 1-putt for Birdie!
Holes 12–14 (Double Bogey, Birdie!, Par): Ran into trouble on the Par 5 13th for a double bogey 7, but once again responded immediately on Hole 14 (Par 4) with my second Birdie of the day!
Holes 15–18 (Par, Par, Double Bogey, Par): Kept my composure through the closing stretch, adding two solid Pars and finishing strong with a 4 on 18 for a back nine 37 (+2) with 16 putts.
π‘ 4. Key Takeaways: What Made the Difference?
Zero Penalty Strokes: Unlike my round at RTJ where water hazards destroyed my scorecard, I kept the ball in play all day (0 Penalties on the card!).
Resilience After Mistakes: Every time I made a double bogey (Holes 8 and 13), I bounced back with a solid score on the very next hole (including a birdie on 14).
Putting Consistency: 33 total putts across 18 holes kept the momentum alive and prevented big numbers from compounding.
Bouncing back from a +28 to a +78 total score (+8 par) is why we love this game. Using tech like Smart Caddie mixed with smart course management proves that you don't need a tour-level swing to post a great score—you just need smart strategy!
