Chula Vista Golf Course(CA): Starting with a Par and Finishing with a Strong 93
There’s a special kind of satisfaction in looking at a scorecard that shows consistency. Today at Chula Vista Golf Course, I managed to put together one of my most balanced rounds yet, finishing with a 93 (47 on the front, 46 on the back). As a self-taught golfer, achieving this level of steady play across all 18 holes feels like a major breakthrough in my "Golf Life."
Today, I was very excited to play because last weekend I played very well(+13).
I was planning to play better than last weekend but... golf is always hard, funny and challenge, that's why I keep playing this sports.
The Front Nine – A Dream Start (47)
Every golfer dreams of a smooth start, and today I had exactly that. I set the tone for the day right from the 1st hole with a solid Par (4). Following that up with two more 4s on the second and third holes gave me an incredible boost of confidence.
The Highlight: Starting with a Par allowed me to play with composure rather than playing "catch-up." Finishing the front nine with a 47 proved that my pre-round routine and focus on fundamentals were working perfectly.
Personal Note: I focused heavily on my alignment today, making sure my "railroad tracks" were pointing exactly where I wanted. It kept my ball in the short grass much more often.
The Back Nine – Finishing with a "Negative Split" (46)
In sports, a "negative split" is when you perform the second half better than the first. In golf, it’s a sign of mental toughness. I managed to shave one more stroke off to card a 46 on the back nine.
The Star Moment (Hole 14): Another beautiful Par (3) on the 14th! Under the California sun, I stuck to my routine, hit a smooth shot, and secured a clean par.
Resilience: Despite the fatigue that usually sets in after 15 holes, I stayed calm and finished strong, proving that I could maintain my tempo until the very last putt on the 18th.
Why This 93 Matters to Me
For those of us teaching ourselves this beautiful, frustrating game, a 93 represents more than just a number:
The Importance of the Start: Starting with a Par on Hole 1 changed my entire mental approach for the day. It proved that I belong in the 90s (and soon, the 80s).
Consistency is King: 47 and 46. There were no massive "blow-up" holes that ruined the day. This level of stability is what I’ve been striving for.
Trusting the Setup: I stopped overthinking the "how" and started focusing on the "where." Trusting my setup allowed me to play more freely.
Today’s round at Chula Vista was a reminder that golf doesn't have to be perfect to be great. A 93 is a score I’m incredibly proud of, especially starting with that strong Par on the first and following it up with another on the 14th. It’s proof that the "golflife12" philosophy—focusing on fundamentals and enjoying the journey—really works.
I'm proud of my 93, because I never go to practice because don't have time for it.
I'm just weekend player. :)
Always love to play this sports as I can play. See you guys.
